What you'll accomplish
By the end of this guide, you'll have rewritten Viator and GetYourGuide listing descriptions that are more compelling, better-structured, and more likely to convert browsers into bookers. You'll also have a repeatable process to refresh your listings seasonally without starting from scratch.
What you'll need
Log into your Viator Operator dashboard or GetYourGuide Supplier Center. Navigate to your tour listings. Copy the full text of each listing description — title, description, inclusions, and any "what to expect" sections.
Paste each into a separate Google Doc so you have a backup before making changes.
Go to {{tool:ChatGPT.url}} and log in. Start a new conversation. You'll use this session for all your listing rewrites.
Start by giving ChatGPT context:
I'm a tour guide in [city] who runs [describe your tours briefly]. I'm going to give you my current OTA listing descriptions (Viator and GetYourGuide) and I want you to help me rewrite them to be more compelling and better-converting. My typical guests are [describe: age range, where they're from, what they care about]. My tour's main differentiator is [what makes yours unique].
Your listing title is what appears in search results. It's the most important real estate on the page.
Give ChatGPT your current title and ask:
Here's my current Viator listing title: "[paste title]"
Rewrite it 5 ways that are more compelling. Rules:
- Must stay under 80 characters
- Must start with what makes the tour unique (not the city name or "walking tour")
- Should create curiosity or promise a specific experience
- Avoid generic phrases like "Explore" or "Discover"
Review the 5 options. Pick the one that most accurately represents your tour AND sounds distinctive.
The best listing descriptions follow a specific structure: Attention → Interest → Desire → Action. Give ChatGPT your current description and this instruction:
Rewrite this tour listing description using the AIDA structure:
- Attention: First sentence hooks the reader with a specific, vivid promise
- Interest: Explain what makes this tour different from every other tour in the city
- Desire: List the 3-4 most compelling stops or experiences (specific, evocative language)
- Action: Close with a clear call-to-book
Current description: [paste your description]
Tour details: [duration, group size, departure times, any unique logistics]
Keep it under 250 words. No bullet points in the main description — flowing narrative only.
Viator and GetYourGuide both have structured "What to Expect" sections that guests read before booking. These need to be specific and confidence-building.
Write a "What to Expect" section for my [tour type] in [city]. Include:
- Physical requirements (walking distance, terrain, pace)
- Group size and guide-to-guest ratio
- What's included vs. not included (use these specifics: [list])
- Weather and cancellation policy note
- 3 specific highlights they'll experience
Write it as bullet points. Be specific, not generic.
Run two different titles for 4-6 weeks. Viator allows you to update listing titles anytime from your dashboard.
After 4 weeks:
Ask ChatGPT: "Generate 3 more title alternatives I can test after my current test period ends."
OTA search algorithms reward recently updated listings. Schedule a quarterly refresh (January, April, July, October):
Seasonal refresh:
Update my tour listing description for [season]. Current description: [paste]. Add seasonal language and any seasonal-specific highlights (e.g., fall foliage, holiday decorations, summer evening atmosphere). Keep all core information. Under 230 words.
New tour launch:
Write a listing description for a new [tour type] tour in [city] I'm launching. Highlights: [list 4-5 stops or experiences]. Target guest: [description]. Duration: [X hours]. What makes it different: [unique angle]. Write title (under 80 chars), main description (under 220 words), and 5 bullet-point inclusions.
